Giselle
is a white love dove. She joined our family on November 18, 2000.
Giselle enjoys working on the computer, munching on Big Macs, driving
the car, watching TV, and talking.
Giselle
has a beautiful dove coo: a multi-purpose 'laughing' sound and a calling coo.
Giselle uses the first coo when she lands after a short flight, when she
loses her balance, when she's afraid, or when she's griping or wants
attention. She makes the second coo when she's calling me or when she
wants me to pet her. For scientific information on Doves and Dove Behavior, please visit Dr.
Miller's Dove Site, a very comprehensive site on doves.
Giselle
travels to Dallas with me to visit Rogers Wildlife, her old cooing
grounds. As you can see (pictured left), Giselle likes to drive.
Giselle can make herself
right at home in a hotel room. Below, Giselle orders a meatless Big
Mac and french fries. She picked off the bread, sesame seeds, and
lettuce.
Giselle has taught me a
lot about dove behavior, which is quite different from pigeon behavior.
She is doing well after adjusting quickly to her new home.
Below are a few more
photographs of this lovely dove whose presence brings such beauty to our
household.
To my deepest regret,
Giselle died on October 19, 2005, and she will be sorely missed. May God
bless her and keep her until we meet again.
