Kensho, The Golden Beaked Dove

Kensho Dove joined my birds in 2003 when he flew inside my chicken yard seeking help. His beak had been broken off and he required handfeeding three times a day.

"Kensho" is a Buddhist term for "enlightenment." Kensho Dove was a beautiful symbol of hope and strength and determination. He had a strong will to live, loved being fed, and was jealous for his humans' attention. He would land on his humans' hands and slap them with his wing if they tried to feed other birds. He was so cute and sweet and smart. He had even learned to eat a bit by himself with no beak!

My beloved Kensho died on July 24, 2006. For reasons I don't understand, he panicked when a helper went to feed him and flew into the wall, dying instantly. He will be sorely missed. May Kensho fly in glory forever in Heaven with his well-deserved golden beak.
