It is important to understand the structure of a pigeon's esophagus, trachea, and crop for tube feeding. You will be pushing the tube behind the trachea and into the esophagus to reach the crop. Avoid getting any food or fluid in the trachea: this can cause the bird to drown. When the beak is open, you can see the opening to the trachea. Keep the tube in the back of the throat to reach the esophagus.
