Kyoshi Goose

One morning I got a call from Dallas about a goose in Austin who needed rescuing. Kyoshi had been hand-raised and then dumped on Town Lake. She didn't know to be afraid of dogs and only knew how to get food if offered to her by a human. A concerned goose lover called the rescue center, who in turn called me to pick her up.

I picked up Kyoshi on Sunday morning, 24 March 2002. She travelled well in a carrier in my car; it was obvious she'd been in cars before. She was way too tame to be trying to survive in the wild and she identified more with humans than with geese or ducks.

Kyoshi stayed with me overnight until Ginger, another wildlife rescue volunteer, transported her up to her new home in Dallas. Kyoshi now has a large pond and plenty of company. She's a beautiful goose, and I miss her already.
